About Your Maternity Photography Session

  • Where does the session take place?

Most of the time I take sessions in my home based studio because it affords me the most flexibility with lighting, costume and prop choices, and comfort in experimenting. Take a look and you will also find some really great outdoor images as well. As a custom photographer I offer you the option to have your images taken ANYWHERE, even your own home (special charges may apply). Still, most of our clients really enjoy their session at my intimate home studio where they can feel comfortable, confident and beautiful.

    Where do I begin?

The search for the right photographer for you is very important. It’s always a good idea to research several photographers and to find one that has a style which matches your tastes. It’s important that you feel connected and trust in the photographer you choose. The best way to make sure is to meet the photographer before you commit. That’s why I offer a free, no obligation, consultation session so we can meet and get to know each other and review our work and products so you can feel confident you’ve made the right choice.

    How Long Does It Take?

Most maternity session last for around one and a half hours. I create a wide variety of images and have a number of outfit changes.

    When should I be photographed?

Every pregnancy is special and unique so the exact timing depends on a number of factors. In general the best time to capture the full beauty of the amazing changes you are going through is between 28 and 34 weeks. However I have taken wonderful images of expecting moms from when they had barely a bump to weeks before the arrival.

    Can Dad Come?

Most assuredly yes! We get more variety and I think it’s important that both parents-to-be document their happiness. Capturing the relationships and love within your family is an important part of creating timeless images that will become cherished heirlooms. My husband even donated some car magazines so they won’t get stir crazy!

How much should we anticipate investing in our maternity photography?

When you’re looking for photographers of course price will be a major factor. But when you’re comparing photographers make sure you are comparing apples to apples. In addition to the quality of their work it’s important to understand what the experience will be like and how they stand behind their work. Take a look at my prices here. I have a no minimum policy and á la cart pricing. That gives you maximum flexibility when it comes time to order. My pricing is very simple by design. There are no confusing packages that have inflated prices that seek to convince you that your getting a “special deal”. My typical maternity session fee is $150 and you are free to order exactly the items you want.

  • You may be asking yourself, “What am I going to wear for my maternity session? Should I bring anything?” Well hopefully this answers some of those questions. The first thing to consider is to not wear anything tight prior to your appointment that would leave any clothing marks on your beautiful belly. ( I know that’s easier said then done since everything is too tight when you’re pregnant  :-))

    What To Wear

My goal is to make the maternity session unique to you. Pre-pregnancy clothing such as fashionable jeans and tops are a great way to reveal your personal style while enhancing the beautiful curves of pregnancy. We will usually not zip the jeans and fold down them down so snug jeans are fine. Additionally you can bring long skirts that fit below the belly. Another great thing to bring to your session are lacy, modern or funky tops like tanks, sweaters, camisoles or lingerie.

    We Have Stuff

Not sure if you have anything you want to bring? Don’t worry! I have a wide range of wraps scarves and other fashionable items you can use to enhance your maternity photos. The artist will work with you to create a look that enhances and reflects the real you.

  • What To Bring

Here are a few ideas for clothing and props. The following items are only suggestions, so please feel free bring along any new ideas as well. It is better to bring along too much and not use something than to be at the studio and wish you had packed a specific item.

    • Black pants. Many of the darker poses work the best with black pants.
    • Fitted non-maternity top. The goal is to have something that hugs your shoulders and breasts, but is a bit too short to cover your belly.
    • Your pre-pregnancy jeans. If you can still fit into your jeans at all while pregnant, they will most likely have to be totally unzipped, so a word of caution prior to your shoot is to do a “bikini check” to see if there are any stray hairs visible.
  • Why You Should Choose Us

Being pregnant is stressful enough without taking chances on your maternity photos. I strive to provide you the very best images and incredible experience because this IS A VERY special time.

That’s why I guarantee that you will be thrilled (not just satisfied) with the images that are created or I will refund your money.

I also retouch all of our images before you see them so as to remove blemishes, minor stretch marks, bruises, scratches or even stray hairs. My intimate studio is perfect for your comfort and privacy. My studio is in my home and I strive to make you feel at home. There won’t be any gawkers or other customers walking by. So you can feel free to do some very feminine poses and experiment with letting it all hang out.
